Diamond Offshore, Inc – Diamond is another major player in the offshore contract drilling business. They employ around 3800 offshore workers around the world on a large fleet of jack-up rigs and semisubmersibles. Hercules Offshore – Hercules has the fourth largest fleet of jackup rigs in the world, and the largest in the nearby and Gulf of Mexico. They also have three semisubmersible rigs and one platform. They also do a large business with what is the world’s largest lifeboat fleet, set as another area of job growth.
It’s really amazing that just those four companies are the biggest sources of offshore jobs in Houston. This does not even include the hundreds of smaller offshore support companies like caterers, welders, and shipping operators.

Oftentimes it is easier to get started working offshore by approaching the contractors for the Fortune 500 companies. The fact is they pay companies like Transocean and Diamond to drill and complete the wells and run the oil rigs.
A Few Other Notes About Entry Level Jobs
Getting hired for offshore jobs in Houston can be little harder than finding entry level offshore jobs in Louisiana. This is because the majority of Houston companies are headquarters, and are for removed from the actual onsite rig labor.
Whereas in Louisiana if you go down to Iberia or Venice, you’ll run across the smaller companies to actually do the work and you can actually talk to the formen and see what jobs are needed.
